When Governor K Sankaranarayanan released Resul Pookutty’s autobiography—Sabdatharpadham—The Sound Of Milky Way—last evening it seemed like an extension of the Oscar celebration. The members of Slumdog Millionaire team A R Rahman and Gulzar, who also own the golden statuettes along with Pookutty, lent their presence to make the event memorable.

The book maps the journey of an ordinary person who confronts extraordinary situations. It is an oral narrative journey which is an interesting mix of music, life, philosophy and humour. The book, which is being published both in Malayalam and English, drew praises from all quarters. Rahman, who was presented the first copy of the book, said, “Resul has done India proud. Every Indian should read his inspiring and life-stirring book.”

The high point of the evening came when Resul spoke at length about the highs and lows of his life with a touch of homour. “The book talks about my journey from Kerala to Mumbai. It is easy to be genuine in front of the mirror but difficult in the book. My manager-cum-friend Baiju Natarajan supported me throughout to be honest while writing the book,” he said.
