A.R. Rahman and Tuomas Kantelinen have been tapped to score the fantasy action adventure The Seventh Son. The film is directed by Sergei Bodrov and stars Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Antje Traue, Olivia Williams and Djimon Hounsou. The film is based on the young adult series The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney and follows a teen who’s the seventh son of a seventh son, and who learns about wizardry from a forbidding spook. Matt Greenberg (1408), Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond) and Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) have written the screenplay. Thomas Tull (Pacific Rim), Basil Iwanyk (The TownClash of the Titans) and Lionel Wigram (Sherlock Holmes) are producing the Legendary Pictures and Thunder Road Pictures production. Kantelinen has previously scored the director’s last two features Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan and A Yakuza’s Daughter Never Cries. The Seventh Son marks the Finnish composer’s first big-budget major Hollywood studio film scoring assignment.

Rahman’s most recent Hollywood project People Like Us starring Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde and Elizabeth Banks was released this summer. The Academy Award-winning composer who is best known internationally for his scores for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours is also working on Dreamworks Animation’s upcoming Mumbai Musical, which is set for a release on December 19, 2015. The Seventh Son will be released on October 18, 2013 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
