Your songs for Ishqiya and Raavan are immensely poetic yet popular?
I felt a great relief writing these songs. I wrote what the script needed. Finally, it’s the film that dictates the songs. No song can be judged in isolation. I must give my heartfelt thanks to Mani Ratnam for understanding my thoughts. A R Rahman is also very accommodating. If I want to add two lines or an extra stanza he makes sure they can be fitted in. His Hindi is even weaker than Mani Ratnam’s. But he instinctively knows what I am trying to say.
