The election commission is planning to rope in music maestro A.R. Rahman to compose a song exhorting the youth to come out and vote without consideration of money or muscle power.

“We are thinking of requesting Rahman to compose a song and use it in our endeavour to increase voting percentage,” said the chief election commissioner, S. Y. Qureshi.

He added that the earlier appeals made by cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni evoked tremendous response leading to 60 percent increase in voters’ turnout.

While addressing an open house session on ‘free and fair elections – combating money and muscle power’ organised by an NGO Fifth Pillar, the CEC said the former president, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, had also agreed to give a call to the youth to vote.

The EC will organise an event for the launch of enrolment campaign on January 25, which would be observed as National Voters Day.
