Describing A R Rahman as a “shining star” in the Islamic Community, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said the music composer’s life is a lesson for the present day youth striving to come up in life and aspiring to scale great heights.

Speaking at the launch of the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference, which was penned by Karunanidhi and music, composed by Rahman, at a function in Chennai Saturday, the octogenarian said, “Rahman is a living legend and an inspiration for the present day youth, who should emulate his principles.”

The Chief Minister also described the maestro as a classic example of how determination and hard work would pay dividends and propel people to dizzy heights. “I was so particular that only Rahman should score music for this song,” he said.

In his address, Rahman praised the Tamil language and thanked Karunanidhi for providing the opportunity to compose the theme song. “I want to include all styles and music like folk, carnatic and western because Tamil is a universal language and we should not restrict it with a circle,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin along with a host of other Central and State government Ministers took part in the event. Music legend L Subramaniam and filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon were also present. The World Classical Tamil Conference would be held in Coimbatore from June 23 to June 27.
