How Khatija Rahman sang Enthiran track!

For the first time, double Oscar winner A.R. Rahman’s eldest daughter Khatija Rahman has sung for a film. This song is the opening track ‘Pudiya Manidha’ in Enthiran which she has sung with ARR and ace singer S.P. Balasubramanyam.

During the audio launch of Enthiran, Rahman revealed just how this happened, “I did not plan on bringing Khatija into singing. I was composing for the song ‘Pudhiya Manidha’ at my studio in Chennai. As usual, it was past midnight and I needed a child’s voice for it. I thought instead of calling someone at that late hour, why not my own daughter? And that’s how the idea originated. When I called her on the intercom, she asked, ‘You want me to come at this time?’ ”

“I said, ‘Okay, fine. If you are not coming now, I will take someone else.’ But even before I could finish my sentence, she said, ‘I will be there in two minutes, appa.’ After finishing her part effortlessly she said, ‘Are you happy pa? I just want to tell you that after staying up so late, I am not going to school tomorrow!’ ”
