University Commencement Ceremony
(for all graduating students)
Saturday, May 5
1:30 p.m.
Yager Stadium
World-renowned composer and musician A.R. Rahman will address students and their families at Miami University’s 173rd annual spring commencement at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at Yager Stadium. For the first time, Miami will stream the commencement ceremony live on the Web, making it viewable worldwide.
Miami officials anticipate a memorable ceremony as 56 Miami seniors join Rahman during his address in a final celebration of Miami’s Year of the Arts.
Rahman is most noted for his work in the movie “Slumdog Millionaire,” which earned him two Oscars, two Grammys, a Golden Globe and other awards. Time Magazine dubbed Rahman, who is estimated to have sold more than 150 million copies of his work worldwide, the “Mozart of Madras” and named him in its list of most influential people in 2009.
Anyone with an Internet connection, smart phone or tablet device will be able to watch the commencement ceremony in real time on the day of the event. Information and a link to see the Web stream will be at www.muohio.edu/commencement.
Families planning to attend Miami’s commencement have a new tool: A commencement section on the Miami U mobile app for iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad has directions, schedules, maps and other information.
Rahman has been associated with Miami’s Global Rhythms World Music Ensemble for more than a decade. He visited campus last September to listen to campus musical groups rehearse.
Miami President David Hodge will preside at commencement and Miami will award 3,529 degrees. No tickets are required.
Families may view photos of commencement online a day or two after the ceremony.
Thanks Miami University !
