Tomorrow’s function to launch the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference has got a new highlight now. For the State government has decided to honour A R Rahman, who has composed music for the song, for bringing home the Oscars and the Grammy.

An official communication said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who has penned lyrics for the theme song ‘Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkkum….’ will felicitate Rahman at the function to be held at the Centenary Auditorum of the Madras University.

Besides, there will be a concert by Drummer Sivamani at the event to be attended by music legend L Subramaniam, filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon (director for the song’s visual version), Central and State Ministers, top officials and Tamil scholars.

The song is said to be quite an audio-visual treat, besides being a fine tribute to the classical language. Over 50 top-notch artists from different genres, including playback music, Carnatic, folk and Sufi have participated in this rare, special confluence.

The song would be played at theatres, on television channels and other forums in the run-up to the conference to be held in June, in Coimbatore. According to Rahman, he only saw this opportunity as a boon to pay a tribute to Tamil through the anthem.
