JAIPUR: The Oscar winning duo, Resul Pookutty and AR Rahman, have taken up cudgels for beautification of Ajmer, home to the shrine to 12th century sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Pookutty, in Jaipur for a Hollywood film shoot, said their plea have reached the prime minister’s office and resulted in the PMO promising Rs 1 crore for sprucing up the city.

Rahman and Kutty are regular visitors to Ajmer dargah sharif and the two along with film director Shekhar Kapoor had visited the shrine recently and had expressed concern over the poor hygiene around it.

The three then met with Ajmer civic authorities and sought a cleanliness drive around dargah but failed to elicit any response.

Pookutty later met with senior ministers in Delhi, drawing their attention towards poor hygienic conditions in Ajmer.

”The dargah is close to my heart. It is a place where I get spiritual solace. It hurts when we see that surroundings of this religious place always remain overcrowded and dirty with open potholes and stink of filth in the air,” Pookutty said.
