The theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference composed by music maestro A R Rahman and pictured by Gautham Vasudev Menon is being screened at theatres all over Tamil Nadu from Sunday.

The song, encapsulating the contributions of Tamil culture and literature down the ages, was officially launched by its author and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at a function in Chennai on June 15.

The 5.5-minute song features 70 singers drawn from both classical and popular streams of music. Filmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the song begins with veteran singer T M Soundararajan rendering the lines ‘Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkkum…’

It brings out the melodious blending of the traditional Tamil nagaswaram and tavil with the guitar and drums. To emphasise the greatness of classical Tamil, the line, ‘Semmozhiyaana Tamizh mozhiyaam,’ runs through the song.

The World Classical Tamil Conference, to be held in Coimbatore from June 23 to June 27, will begin with the rendering of this theme song. In the meantime, it will also be aired on Tamil television channels.
