Oscar- and Grammy-winning musician A.R. Rahman will start his world tour in December with a concert in Dubai for his many fans, tabloid! can confirm. The composer of music for films such as Slumdog Millionaire and the upcoming Rockstar will hit the stage at the Dubai International Stadium in Sports City on December 9 in the A.R. Rahman — The Man, The Music, The Legend concert, said event organiser Talent Brokers yesterday.
“A.R. Rahman’s music has not only redefined contemporary Indian music but also transcended boundaries. This really is one ‘must see’ event not to be missed,” said Talent Brokers’ Richard Coram in a statement. “It’s aimed at people of all ages and all nationalities.”
Rahman is currently promoting Rockstar with the stars Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri and will perform a concert with the actors in Mumbai tomorrow. The much-loved singer and composer is a prolific collaborator, having recently worked with the supergroup Superheavy, consisting of Rahman, Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone and Damian Marley and also featured on Michael Bolton’s latest duets album, Gems.
He’ll again team up with one of the music world’s finest during his Dubai concert, as concert whiz Amy Tinkham — the creative director behind live spectaculars by Britney Spears and Mariah Carey — will create a “theatrical experience that will blend new technologies with powerful dance arrangements and acrobatics”, according to a statement by Talent Brokers, who promise the concert will bring a mix of Indian heritage and modern presentation through LED screens and a global cast of musicians and dancers.
Tickets, costing from Dh100 to Dh1,000, are on sale from today at tickets.virginmegastore.me, boxofficeme.com, ticketingco.com and other online outlets.
Meanwhile, Kapoor and Fakhri, who are in Dubai on Thursday, will have a special performance at the University of Wollongong Dubai (UOWD). Here to promote Rockstar, they will perform with the university band for around 250 students, who will be chosen by a draw. The event is only for students of the university.
